I started life as an outdoor kind of child; I followed my Builder Dad around and copied everything he made: I had my own tool kit from a very early age and my love for making was solidified by the age of 5 years old.
My varied career has given endless opportunities to be creative, working as a Chef allowed a creative flair which led to a career in Cake decorating. My passion was always in pottery as the burning desire to try it again after O levels had never gone away. I still have a pot to remind me of how proud I was of creating such a large piece. I remember the shelf in the Art room, full of small items made from clay and there stood my mountain of a vase, shouting at me to carry on with ceramics. It took many years to actually get around to taking up ceramics again.
After the birth of my 3rd daughter I was introduced to lady who taught only two students at a time, I was lucky enough to be one of the students. My enthusiasm grew and grew and I eventually purchased my own potter’s wheel and kiln and haven’t looked back!
After completing a MA Fine Art I took the leap and created Cally James MA- Ceramic and Sculptural Artist. I teach regular classes and work on private commissions My week is always full.
